God is Music
Affectionately dubbed "Steinway Soliloquies" - thoughts about God written from underneath a grand piano.
This may be a strange question, but have you ever sat underneath a grand piano while it is being played? If you haven’t, it’s a 10/10 experience, I highly recommend it. Allow me to tell you why.
This poem was born in June 2021 on a hot and muggy day in Nauvoo, Illinois. I was seeking some much-needed respite from the heat, humidity, and human interaction. To put it simply, I was just, done.
I spotted a beautiful Steinway in the west theater, saw my opportunity, and dove underneath, pioneer skirts, petticoats, and all bunched underneath me.
As I was resting (read: hiding) under the piano, my dear friend sat down and began to play a song with such passion and love that the sound completely and utterly enveloped me. Without knowing why, my eyes began to fill with tears as God taught me a fundamental truth about Himself through that song, played with not only skill and technique but with heart and soul.
To this day I still can’t remember the song that was played, but I will always treasure this poem revealed to me under the safety of a Steinway on a hot, muggy day in Nauvoo.
Enjoy. :)
God is Music.
He is in the grand arpeggios of a sonata,
In the feeble voice that still decides to sing.
He is in the gentle crooning of a mother's lullaby,
And He hears the dissonant cries of a soul wanting relief.
His melody is sweeping,
joyous,
all-encompassing,
And in his harmony, we find peace.
As the music swells, filling our souls with light and love,
He hears the songs we cannot sing.
And He sings along with us.
If ye have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can ye feel so now?
